Lemon peel white flowers, white pepper and mint open first. This is an especially airy, gracious Chardonnay. Time in the glass brings out striking textural richness to play all of those bright, high-toned notes. A mesmerizing wine of dimension and phenolic intensity, the 2019 is captivating from the get go. Rita Hills and planted in 2016, the soils here consist of Tierra Complex and Elder loam with marine sedimentary rock below. The chardonnay sits on the lighter soils to the western portions of the vineyard most conducive to chardonnay and expressing the wonderful precision and minerality the Santa Rita Hills can offer. The 2019 shows the extreme oceanic influence of this site, being just 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Sea air and bracing citrus first greet the nose. On the palate there’s a beautiful relationship between the salinity and fruit, playing well to the overall energy and generous texture."
