94 points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Pinot Noir La Caprice is absolutely fabulous, with soft, velvety texture, forest floor, red and black currants, some raspberries, spring flowers, roasted meats and herbs. A gorgeously rich wine, it is medium to full-bodied and capable of lasting 10-15+ years. The steepest slope of the three Pinot Noirs is called Ma Danseuse, an acknowledgment to Sir Peter Michael's wife, who was a ballerina. Drink: 2015-2030. (Dec 2015)"
94 points William Kelley (Decanter): "The Peter Michael wines are probably the most exciting Pinot Noirs being made in the Fort Ross-Seaview, benefitting from impeccably chosen vine material (from a famous vineyard in Vosne-Romanée) and attentive viticulture. La Caprice is the most supple and ethereal of the Pinots, bursting with perfumed notes of rose petal, clove, cumin and black fruit. The palate is expansive and savoury, framed by fine tannins and juicy acids. (1/12/17)"
Producer notes: "Le Caprice is easily identifiable by its deep ruby color and bright crimson tinge. Its shows intense aromas of raspberry liqueur, red cherry and blackberry mixed with Russian leather and graphite. The palate is expressive and delivers Grillottes cherry, sandalwood, raspberry, wild strawberry, pheasant fur, forest floor, hazelnut, mussels and leather, with a background of raspberry liqueur. The texture is round, tactile and mineral driven. The wine is already expressive and will continue to develop for at least two decades. 100% naturally fermented using native yeasts. Aged 16 months in 50% new French oak barrels. Alcohol: 14.5%."
