94 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): "Herbal uplift combines with red plums and sweet cherries. The tannins are svelte and sleek, nicely balancing the mid-weight palate. The charismatic oak is tactfully integrated. This was protected by candles during the worrying frost season. (2023)"

91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2021 Volnay Les Frémiets 1er Cru has exquisite definition on the nose: a mélange of red and black fruit, allspice and light iris flower scents. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, more red fruit developing laced with clove and a touch of cooked meats, quite complex towards the finish that lingers in the mouth. Classy and certainly with the substance to age. Drink: 2024-2042. (Jan 2023)"

92 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Here too there is a subtle but perceptible dollop of wood on the nose that is a bit more deeply pitched as well as noticeably spicier. There is excellent mid-palate density to the seductively rich, even suave and velvety, medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a vaguely sweet, balanced and long finale. This presently lacks a bit of nuance for my taste though I suspect that it will add more with age as Frémiets typically does just that. Drink: 2031+. (Apr 2023)"

92 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "Comte Armand’s 0.40-hectare parcel of Fremiets was first planted eighty years ago. In 2021, this was the only vineyard protected with candles, which did help in the end. The wine produced here has a lovely forward fruit with aromas of ripe raspberry with floral notes and a hint of smoke and spice. The texture is supple and silky, with balanced acidity, a velvety feel, and impressive length for the vintage. Drinking Window: 2025-2045. (Nov 2022)"

Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): "(from two parcels – one of young vines of 30 years, the other 90.) Broader, energetic, slightly darker fruit. The only vines ‘protected’ by candles and the volume was almost normal. The perfume slowly coming out. Extra depth and substance, faintly saline, perfumed again in the finish – super finishing. Keep a while but thats a great finish. (1/3/23)"
