Excellent interplay of structured tannins and fruit on the quite firm medium-bodied palate. From a 3.5 hectare plot in this east-facing and rocky Volnay 1er Cru that was picked early to prevent overripeness. (8/8/23)"

94 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): "Frédéric Weber said that he saw potential alcohol climb an entire degree here in three days, thanks in good part to its poor, thin topsoil right on top of bedrock. But there is good freshness and no over-ripeness here. The acidity creeps across the palate offering the medium body gentle lift, and there is a crushed gravel note that offers minerally vitality, too. Perfectly ripe blueberries meet sweet cream and violet on the sustained finish. (2024)"

91-93 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "A small yield in 2022, making it hard to judge the picking date. A rich deep purple in the centre. The oak adds a sheen to the nose. There is vigour to this albeit with a slightly riper fruit profile, but the structure is balanced very well by a fresher limestone feel. (Oct 2023)"

90-92 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2022 Volnay Les Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot 1er Cru has a nicely detailed bouquet with black cherries, raspberry coulis, wild mint and a touch of dark chocolate emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and modest weight, very nicely balanced with a smooth, coca-tinged finish. It will need 4-5 years to absorb the 30% new oak. Drink: 2025-2038. (Jan 2024)"
