91-93 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .66 ha parcel). A perfumed and exceptionally pretty nose is comprised mostly by the essence of red currant trimmed in subtle spice and floral nuances. The rich and beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors exude evident minerality on the clean, youthfully austere and notably more complex finale. This is very well-balanced and in contrast to the prior two wines, one that is going to require at least some patience. Drink: 2028+. (Jan 2022)"

Thanks to John Gilman's diligent research, we know that not all Charmes are created equal: "[Bertheau's] vines are situated on the more northerly half of this fairly large premier cru, which to my mind is the sweet spot of the vineyard...It ages beautifully and is one of the best wines in the Bertheau cellars, year in and year out and probably the very best value to be found amongst François Bertheau’s lineup...[At] maturity it shares with [Amoureuses] a silky, velvety palate impression, beautiful notes of cherries and Chambolle’s inimitable beetroot character, lovely spice and floral tones and a beautiful base of limestone soil...a great bottle of Chambolle!"
