Verdet/Aurélien Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc Le Prieuré 2019

As their only white wine in the line-up, this represents as good of a value as you'll likely find in Burgundy, especially for lovers of the "natural wine movement". This Chardonnay is from Aurelien Verdet's Le Preiuré vineyard located on the south-facing slope behind the charming village of Arcenant, seven miles west of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Planted in the 1970s, this vineyard's soils consist of limestone and clay, with bands of rock about a foot below the surface that restrict vigor and ensure high quality. The vineyard is certified organic and the grapes are elevated with effectively zero human intervention.

Not yet reviewed; 2018 vintage rated 91 points by William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The 2018 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Le Prieuré is fleshier and richer than its 2017 counterpart, offering up aromas of cherries and raspberries complemented by hints of peonies and cinnamon. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, its ample core of fruit is underpinned by lively acids and fine, powdery tannins. Drink: 2020-2030."
