98 points/'Top-Scoring Wines of 2021,' Decanter: "Cantina Terlano in Alto Adige is arguably Italy’s top white wine cooperative. Founded in 1893, today 143 members cultivate some 190ha of vines northwest of Bolzano. From low-yielding vineyards (35hl/ha), Primo Grande Cuvée is mainly made up of Pinot Bianco, with up to one third Chardonnay plus Sauvignon Blanc (around 3% in the 2018 vintage). Fermented and matured in oak where it spends 12 months on its lees before bottling, the wine more than lives up to its billing. Michelle Cherutti-Kowal MW: This has loads of different aromatic characters: fruit, almonds, honey… And the palate is backed with all of it, fresh acidity, lingering finish. Super wine. Stefan Neumann MS: A superb nose, grabbing your attention, wonderful creamy note with hints of yellow apples and pear, sweet quince and ripe peach. Good mineral backbone giving it a wonderful vibrancy. Matt Walls: Very lean, very flinty, very smoky. Then driving intensity and focus on the palate. A cleansing alpine style. Drinking Window: 2022-2055. (Oct 2021)"

98 points Falstaff

97 points James Suckling: "Still very young, the toasty and leesy notes still a shade dominant, but with aeration an exceptionally wide spectrum of aromas emerge, from gentian root to exotic fruit via candid citrus. Stunning concentration and minerality that makes you sit up straight and pay attention! Super long and vibrant finish that has enough energy to carry this forward for decades. Drinkable now, but better from 2023. (5/13/21)"

Producer notes: "65% Pinot Bianco, 32% Chardonnay, 3% Sauvignon Blanc. Color: brilliant straw yellow. Smell: rich and complex on the nose; multifaceted aromas of citrus fruit, white pepper and herbs as well as a delicate smoky note. Taste: The wine’s elegance and perfect balance are the product of its remarkable structure and subtle texture, which give the wine its unmistakable character. Its extremely long finish is more than pleasant; it leaves its mark in memory as the supreme expression of a mineral terroir that is unique in the world. Alcohol 13.5%."
