92 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2021 Fleurie comes from vines on granitic soil located at 470m altitude, 1.7-hectares split over two parcels. The élevage is for 9 omnths with no racking. This has a slight reduction on the nose at the moment, but you can still detect beguiling red berry fruit, wilted rose petal and hints of kirsch — a little Pinot Noir-like. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins. Nicely chiseled, fresh and poised with a twist of sour cherry towards the finish. Excellent. (May 2023)"

90 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2021 Fleurie from Julien Sunier is from a steep vineyard parcel in the climat of Niagara, in the upper sections of the village. The vines are farmed organically and the wine fermented with native yeasts and raised in older Burgundy casks. It is low octane in this vintage, coming in at 11.5 percent alcohol, but reasonably deep in color and offers up a musky and gently wild bouquet of cherries, sweet cranberries, vinesmoke, granitic soil tones, peonies and roses. On the palate the wine is bright, tangy and fullish, with lovely intensity of flavor, a touch of volatility to its acids and modest tannins perking up the long and complex finish. This is a touch structurally fragile and mousey, but also complex. The gentle cracks in the façade would lead me to drink this wine in its relative youth, just to be safe. Natural wine enthusiasts will like this even better than I did, but there is enough good things going on here in the glass that I can overlook its fragility for the time being. Drink: 2023-2030. (Mar/Apr 2023)"
