93 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "A section of vines with shallow soil at the top of the hill, just below the castle. The nose has a mix of crushed-pebble aromas and fresh lime juice. The palate is so succulent and juicy with a very fresh array of yellow stone fruit. Smooth and fresh. Some handy grip at the finish. Drink now. (12/16/19)"

93 points/'Editors' Choice,' Wine Enthusiast: "[$42 list] Dusty shards of slate and lime zest introduce this thrilling, spine-tingling Kabinett. It's delicately sweet but balanced seamlessly by crisp, cutting tones of lemon and grapefruit acidity. A sprightly, invigorating sip that's full of nervous tension now but should drink beautifully through 2030. Alcohol 11%. (Dec 2020)"

92 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "The 2018 Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Kabinett Rotlack is intense, ripe and quite intense but fine and elegant on the nose. Lush and round, this is a very elegant, finessed and playful, silky and crystalline Schloss Johannisberger with beautiful sweetness and mineral character. This is a gorgeous wine, though too rich and structured for Kabinett but a serious and expressive, very elegant Rheingau Riesling. The wine was vinified with one-third in large oak vats that didn't undergo the malolactic fermentation like the other two-thirds of the assemblage. The 2018 has been bottled with 22 grams of residual sugar (AP no. 04 19). Tasted in August 2019. (Jan 2020)"

92 points CellarTracker.com community score.

Producer notes: "Composed of hand-harvested grapes from the single Schloss Johannisberg vineyard, this exceptional Riesling exudes graceful citrus and wild strawberry aromas combined with intriguing herbal notes. Pure elegance with a delicate creamy texture and a long mineral finish."
