92 points Aldo Fiordelli (Decanter): "Bell'Aja's vineyards are mostly planted in the Sondraie subregion of the appellation. The blend for the Superiore is 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, picking the oldest plots of the former. The wine is dense garnet, with a lot of new oak alongside aromas of rose bud and violet, black pepper, liquorice and a touch of smoke. The attack is dense and full, smooth if not creamy, with cassis flavour and woven tannins. The approachable character of Merlot is underlined by well integrated, moderate acidity. Despite an oaky and warming finish, this wine is complex and ready to drink. Drinking window 2022-2029 (Jun 2022)."

92 points James Suckling: "Fresh, minty black and blue berries with dark chocolate and roasted sweet spices. This is a flavorful, full-bodied red with a twist of bitterness to the dark-berry fruit. Tight, chewy and a little woody now, but will come around in two years. Drink after 2024. (8/8/22)"

Producer notes: "Forty years have passed since the purchase of the Campogiovanni wine estate in Montalcino, and now San Felice has extended its interest to another world-class winegrowing area: Bolgheri. Consistent with its philosophy of making wine exclusively from estate-grown grapes, San Felice located 6 hectares of vineyards near Le Sondraie area. The vines, averaging 5 years old and planted in the silt-sand soils classic to the zone, amount to 2 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon and 4 hectares of Merlot."

92 points Susan Hulme MW (The Wine Independent): "This 2019 San Felice Bolgheri Superiore Bell'Aja has a heavily oaked spice nose obscuring its identity, although it is an attractive mix of baking spice, cream and cedar. It has lively acidity although the tannins are a little brash. It's a well made, robust wine, a little chunky and forceful in style but very enjoyable and hearty. Drink 2023-2030 (Nov 2022)."
