A-fresher style of strawberry, plus raspberry, on the palate, an excellent fruit acid balance with tamed tannins. Do I still get a touch of something smoky to finish, a slight intrusion of the barrel toast while the wine is young? Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023."

There’s more black fruit here, certainly more backward, graphite-tinged with light sous-bois scents developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy tannins. It is one of the most structured Charmes-Chambertin wines, from vines planted in 1881 and 1882 (the first vines planted in the locality after the phylloxera crisis.) Superb, but serious! Drink: 2030-2055. (Jan 2024)"
Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): "(About 60% of the original 1881 vines remain, but some of the replacements are already old vines in their own right. ‘A place with extremities of heat and cold and dryness – it’s this richness that brings the material…’) A smaller but finely focused nose. Now that starts direct – growing wider over the palate as the hyper-complex flavour melts and fills all the space in the mouth. The structure and faint grain of tannin is slightly more visible in the middle but almost invisible in the finish. It will be great – as it usually is – but wait 20-25 years if you want the next level of performance. Bravo! (1/13/24)"
