97 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "I had very much liked the Ponsot Clos de la Roche out of barrel, but it certainly seems like I underrated it a bit back in the fall of 2008, as the wine has really turned out brilliantly and is already drinking with great complexity and breed at age seven. The absolutely brilliant bouquet soars from the glass in a blaze of black plums, black truffles, roasted venison, woodsmoke, coffee, incipient sous bois, fresh herb tones and a lovely base of dark soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully complex, with a great core of pure fruit, stunning soil signature, melting tannins and stunning length and grip on the focused and utterly classic finish. Stunning juice! 2014-2050. (Jan/Feb 2014)"

93-97 points Fine Wine Review: "The wine is 14.5° in alcohol. It shows nervy dark plum fruit that is quite ripe and very dense with slight sucrosity. The wine is quite closed for the moment and seemingly will require a great deal of aging to full maturity. (Feb 2009)"

95 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "Tasted at Goedhuis’s Burgundy tasting at the Saatchi Gallery. A brilliant wine from Laurent Ponsot, the ’07 should not be missed. It has retained that compelling wild strawberry, raspberry, mine rally nose that soars once it is poured (hey...that rhymes!) The palate is medium-bodied with a sense of brooding power that is almost overwhelming, punched through with crisp acidity and a sorbet-like sweetness towards the finish. Combines intensity with elegance with ease. Drink 2015-2040+ Tasted March 2010. (Sep 2010)"

94 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(the aggregate size of this holding is a whopping 3.4 ha and Ponsot is easily the largest holder in Clos de la Roche). A magnificently complex nose offers up a mix of both high and medium-toned aromas of mostly red berries but with a panoply of background nuances including leather, tea, underbrush, spice hints, jerky and smoke, most of which transfer to the textured, intense and precise full-bodied flavors that are, somewhat surprisingly, not quite as dense as those of the Clos St. Denis but actually finer (normally it’s the reverse), all wrapped in a hugely long and explosive finish that completely coats the palate with extract, indeed so much of it that this does not seem all that structured yet it will clearly need at least 15 years to be at its best. Note that there was a hair of backend dryness in evidence that I am attributing to the recent bottling. Drink: 2022+. (Jan 2010)"

93 points Wine Spectator: "[$383/750ml list] This has density and a chewy quality to its macerated cherry, licorice, mineral and spice aromas and flavors. Elegant, firmly structured and well-integrated, with a long finish of spice and mineral. Not a flattering red, but soulful and expressive of place. Best from 2012 through 2024. (8/4/10)"

Clive Coates (My Favorite Burgundies): "Medium colour. Quite developed now. Soft nose. Plump but somewhat lightweight. Medium body. Nice and fresh. Attractive, ripe, and succulent on the palate. Good energy and positive at the end. Needs a year or two. Most enjoyable. Drink: From 2014. (Tasted Nov 2011)"
