94 points Bettanne & Desseauve: "A high class brut, always tender and delicate, magnificent for its aromatic amplitude, its slender and tasty palate and its luminous finish which ends with a touch of iodine class. (2022).
93 points Tyson Stelzer (The Champagne Guide): "(tasted in 2023 in Australia; 67% pinot noir, 31% chardonnay, 2% meunier; 2019 base vintage; 34% perpetual reserve aged in oak barrels and foudres of 228 L, 500 L, 15 hL, 30 hL and 45 hL; aged 3-4 years on lees; disgorged January 2023; 8g/L dosage; cork). I have long loved Royale Réserve, revelling in the full depth of Mareuil pinot and all the theatrics of partial barrel fermentation, ever a reliable and affordable go-to, and recent warm seasons have done nothing to perturb its confidence and allure. The synergy between the dark berry/cherry/plum fruit depth of Mareuil pinot noir in the warm 2019 season and the spicy depth of a generous reserve solera makes for a generous and enticing Royale Réserve. Barrel maturation in a spectrum of formats lends creamy texture and subtle toasty complexity to layers of mixed spice and fruit mince spice. Dosage integrates neatly on a long and juicy finish. (Edition VII; 2024)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "[$85/750ml list] Chiseled acidity is swathed in a fine, satiny mousse in this elegant Champagne, forming a vibrant springboard for flavors of ripe black currant, dried white cherry, lemon-infused pastry cream, Marcona almond and crystallized honey. Long and chalky on the refreshing finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Disgorged January 2024. Drink now through 2029. (9/25/24)"
93 points/'Brut NV Champagne of the Year 2022 (Maison),' Tom Hewson (TimAtkin.com): "2018 base. 65% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Meunier. Phillipponnat have a way of softening the obviousness of base vintages, and it works; 2018 is ripe and sunny, yes, and you feel it in the juicy apricot pastry and red fruits. But there's savoury interest massaged in, the mousse settled and fine, the shape broad-shouldered but measured all the way to the close. This continues to be a benchmark NV. (2017 base also 93pts) (Dec 2022)"
92 points Simon Field, MW (Decanter): "Always open in the exposition of the origins of its wines, Philipponnat has upped the stakes of late by not only adding foudres to its vinification armoury but also increasing volumes from two separate Réserves Perpétuelles. The result is impressive; Pinot power writ large in red fruit and biscuity complexity, with resonance on the back palate, the ensemble still harnessed by disarmingly energetic freshness. Drinking Window: 2021-2025. (Jun 2021)"
92 points James Suckling: "Walnuts, apricot stones, honey, sourdough and orange fruit here. Creamy and balanced, with a medium body and fine bubbles. Excellent persistency. 67% pinot noir, 31% chardonnay and 2% meunier. 2019 base with 34% reserve wines. Disgorged January 2023. 8g/L dosage. Drink now. (8/7/23)"
