96 points (18/20) La Revue du Vin de France: "Finally, Clos des Goisses 2005, 70% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay, blocked malolactic fermentation, presents a shimmering, fine, high maturity, and combines aromas of bergamot and preserved lemon. A mature, sexy vintage. (2015)"

95 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2005 vintage of Clos des Goisses is a stellar wine. The cépages this year is sixty-five percent pinot noir and thirty-five percent chardonnay. It was disgorged in March of 2014 after eight years aging sur latte and was finished off with a dosage of 4.5 grams per liter. The wine is beautifully refined on the nose today, wafting from the glass in a mix of apple, peach, chalky minerality, caraway seed, hazelnut, fresh-baked bread and a lovely touch of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and complex, with a lovely core, excellent soil signature, elegant mousse and a long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. This is the epitome of refinement. 2023-2050. (Jan/Feb 2023)"

95 points James Suckling: "A truly special site, this is a majestic Champagne that has superb darker notes of brulée, roasted almonds and lightly spiced caramel, plus blue fruit aromas, cassis and mineral flecked earth. The palate's really rich and structurally powerful; it has a long and chiseled shape that drives deep and long. Powerful yet supple and curvaceous, seductive texture. A great Champagne. (7/9/15)"

95 points Tyson Stelzer (The Champagne Guide): "(disgorged November 2013; 65% pinot noir, 35% chardonnay; 50% vinified in barrels; no malolactic fermentation; aged 7.5 years on lees; extra brut of 4.3g/L dosage, though labelled brut). For its lofty credentials (and price to match), Clos des Goisses should consistently rank in the highest echelons of Champagne. If sheer, booming power were the only criterion it would have no equal. The house describes it as a 'big, Burgundian style of champagne!' ...the characteristically ripe, exuberant and coarse 2005 vintage has yielded a Clos des Goisses ranks among my favourites of recent times, and I can't think of any other champagne of which I could say the same. Perhaps it's that the expansive volume of the season has accentuated its well-defined core of grapefruit, lemon and roast fig, rising to meet looming intensity of oak-derived coffee beans, fruit cake, dark chocolate, hazelnuts and butterscotch? In the midst of this swirling vortex, chalk mineral structure confidently raises its head, infusing a tension and freshness to a creamy mouthfeel, somehow bolstered by subtle bitter grapefruit texture. The freshness it upholds is astonishing for the site, the season and the recipe, and it may even go down among the better ageing wines of the vintage. (2016/2017)"

94 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Not surprisingly, the 2005 Clos des Goisses is still very much a baby. At once dense yet also compact, the 2005 has almost an animal sense of power to it, along with elements of austerity that need time to soften. Brioche, apple tart and smoke are nicely delineated in the bouquet, but otherwise, the 2005 is not giving up much today. As always, Clos des Goisses is built for cellaring. The only question is how long it will be before the 2005 is ready to deliver maximum pleasure. Disgorged November 2013. Dosage is 4 grams/liter. Drink: 2017-2035. (Jul 2015)"

94 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Strong aromas of petrol and yeast predominate at present over the elegant and pure aromas of citrus, white flowers and apple scents. As is usually the case there is a highly refined mouth feel to the wonderfully intense, rich and complex flavors that are shaped by a wonderfully fine effervescence, all wrapped in a notably dry finish. This is an unusually powerful vintage of Clos des Goisses and another interesting aspect is how dry it is for a 2005. While this could be enjoyed now I would suggest holding it for another 3 to 5 years first to allow a bit more overall depth to develop. Drink: 2020+. (Jun 2017)"

19/20 points Essi Avellan MW (The World of Fine Wine): "Medium-deep lemon with peachy tinge. Nose has depth: It is fruity, robust, and powerful. Bright Pinot fruit, a potpourri of spices, and fine toasty and charred notes alongside super-ripe fruit that is almost botrytized. Weighty, ample palate. Mouthfilling and dense but has enough freshness and life to keep it from being heavy. Still young, style-wise flirting with oxidation but staying on the safe side. Long and intense, with perfected dosage. This will take time in its firmness and power. (Issue #49; 2015)"
