94 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "Scintillatingly pure aromas of white peaches, lemon pith and flint make for a captivating nose that is laced with stony minerals. The palate has such seamless and smoothly fleshy peaches, nectarines and limes that hold long. Drink or hold. (9/16/19)"

92-94 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "Tasted as a provisionally assembled barrel sample in June 2019, the 2018 Ayler Kupp Unterstenberg Fass 12 offers a dark, flinty and still yeasty/earthy bouquet with ripe, darker-toned fruit and fresh peanut aromas. The nose is quite complex and very promising. Creamy, round and charming on the palate, this is a full-bodied and rich yet also piquant and crystalline Riesling with good mineral grip and fruity bitters on the finish. This is a very intense and powerful but fine and refreshing mineral Unterstenberg with a very promising finish. (Aug 2019)"

92-93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2018 Unterstenberg Riesling 'Faß 12' was still in cask, but was showing beautiful potential. Katharina Lauer estimated that this wine will settle in somewhere between twelve and thirteen grams of sugar in this vintage. The wine was showing lovely aromatic complexity, wafting from the glass in a blend of salty minerality, plenty of smokiness, tart peaches and oranges, lemongrass and wild yeasts. On the palate the wine is long, full-bodied, suave on the attack and very classy in overall personality, with a full-bodied format, lovely focus and grip and a long, zesty and very precise finish. The fruit tones here are really, really lovely, while still letting the minerality drive the bus. 2022-2060. (Mar/Apr 2019)"

90-93 points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 12 19. The 2018er Ayler Kupp Unterstenberg Riesling Fass 12 comes from this prime Lieu-Dit forming the south-southwest facing, front part of the original Kupp hill and was fermented down to just off-dry levels of residual sugar (13 g/l). This cask sample offers a beautifully fruity and floral nose of yellow peach, greengage, mirabelle, candied grapefruit and almond cream. A delicately smooth and juicy feel on the palate coupled with a mild sensation of acidity make this off-dry come over as very approachable and charming. The complexity of the wine only comes through in the very long finish. This will need a couple of years to integrate its tale of sweetness and develop more complexity. There is great potential here. 2025-2038. (Jun 2019)"
