97 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "Enormously complex and finely-nuanced, this is a very concentrated dry riesling that is only just beginning to reveal all its treasures. A super-long and super-mineral finish that doesn't want to let you go! Better from 2018 and for many years after. (12/13/17)"

96 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "The 2016 Schonfels "Fass 11" ("Grosses Gewächs") has deep, ripe, elegant fruit (ripe pears) with noble yeasty, vegetal (bouquet garni) aromas on the nose along with herbal/spicy and even iodine notes. On the palate, this is a rich, highly elegant but fine and firmly structured Schonfels with a long, complex and salty finish. A great Riesling with Just three grams of residual sugar. Tasted in March 2018, from a bottle that was opened four weeks prior. Drink: 2025-2040. (Apr 2018)"

93 points Decanter: "Damp earth, Amalfi lemons, green apple and lime pith aromas are joined by a strong, minerally slate component. It has austere purity with great power, with notes of peach and mineral alongside a refreshing acidity, followed by a long, fresh and tangy finish. Drinking Window: 2020-2033. (Mar 2018)"

93 points David Schildknecht (Vinous): "Scents of smoky black tea, mint, sweetly pungent Madagascar peppercorn and lychee all suggest Gewürztraminer – an impression reinforced by mouthwateringly saline, smoky suggestions of bacon on the full, glossy palate – while sage, marjoram and pink grapefruit point toward Scheurebe. Undeniably, this is a highly unusual Saar Riesling, not to mention a kaleidoscopically complex one – even if you consider just the nose! Alkaline and stony notes add to the intrigue of a finish that preserves the peppered bacon and resinous green herbs. This lacks a bit of brightness and sheer juiciness vis-à-vis others of the best wines in the present collection – let alone compared to Saar Rieslings in general – but there is more than compensatory richness, diversity and sheer persistence. Drink: 2017-2030. (Mar 2018)"
