Merwah is a light-skinned grape variety indigenous to Lebanon. Historically the variety was common on the terraces of Mount Lebanon. Here the vines would be interspersed with - and climb - olive and fig trees. Merwah typically produces rich wines with light citrus and nut flavors. They can, at times, lack the acid required to balance their palate weight, but a fresh acidity is common in high altitude climates. Mersel Wines is run by Eddie Chami and Abdullh Richi who both farm and buy fruit from small, local farmes in Bekaa Valley--the highest viticultural area in the Northern Hemisphere, ranging between 2000-2500m above sea level. They strive to produce unique, nuanced wines, using environmentally friendly methods that are low intervention, sustainable, and contribute towards a positive rural life and social impact within the community."
