93 points Wine & Spirits: "This vintage of Mastroberardino’s flagship wine is delicious, saturating the palate with fruit and spice flavors. The aglianico grapes come from the family’s Montemarano and Mirabella Eclano estates, where the vines grow in sandy or clay soils at elevations of 1,150 to 2,100 feet. The wine’s roasted-beet richness lends earthy ballast to flavors of ripe plum and woodland berries, cinched together by tannins that feel firm and polished. Those flavors surround a core of black minerality that centers the wine, lending structure along with smoky savor. The finish is long and balanced, indicating many years of life ahead. (Jun 2017)"
91+ points Ian D'Agata (Vinous): "[$60 list] Very deep ruby. Refined aromas of black cherry, raspberry jam, flint and fresh herbs. Rich, dense and multilayered, displaying an elegant, almost austere personalità that boasts nicely chiseled blue and herbal black fruit flavors. Finishes long with youthfully chewy tannins and repeating notes of tar and flint. Knockout Taurasi that promises to develop slowly. Drink: 2018-2024. (Nov 2016)"
