96 points David Schildknecht (Vinous): "White peach syrup, pear drops and lime are wreathed in sea breeze and lily-of-the-valley for a memorably seductive aromatic display. Lusciously fruited and featuring almond and vanilla extracts lending a lightly confectionary cast, yet also stimulatingly bright, the midpalate displays ethereal levity and caressing creaminess. Honeyed richness of quince preserves adds opulence to the superbly sustained finish, but at the same time, lime zest and pear skin supply piquant and tangy counterpoint, while a startling influx of fresh lime, grapefruit and white peach juices serves for genuine refreshment such as one seldom experiences from an Auslese, much less from one this rich in accompanying flavors and texture. “To be honest,” I had quoted Kühn as saying about the corresponding 2017, “I’d rather have an Auslese even finer and with a little less sheer concentration.” He seems to have achieved that here, if without capturing quite the depth of savor I detected in that 2017. Time in bottle might of course tell a different story. Either wine is as irresistible now as it is assured decades of felicitous development. And there were 1,200 liters of this 2016! Drink: 2021-2055. (Apr 2021)"

19/20 points Michael Schmidt (JancisRobinson.com): "Auslese may right now not be the style of Riesling the in-crowd wishes to be seen sipping, but the purity and elegance of Kühn’s Lenchen would bring tears to the eyes even of hardened devotees of orange wine. Passion fruit, papaya, honey and ginger are inadequate descriptors of a taste that may be generous but stops well short of cloying opulence. An endless finish provides the opportunity to explore the many intricate details of flavour, while ample acidity keeps the juices flowing. Drinking Window: 2020-2035. (4/29/19)"
