97+ points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 48 10. The 2009er G-Max proves still slightly reductive and almost stinky at first and only gradually reveals a mind-blowingly great nose, which is both profound and absolutely amazingly fresh regarding the vintage. Smoky, very primary and floral elements enhanced by notes of minty herbs, yuzu and chalky minerals are superbly wrapped into some spontaneous fermentation residues. The wine develops great focus and energy on the palate. It is straight and almost razor sharp, and has outstanding density. The finish proves feather light and sublimely airy. This defies all the rules of a “hot” vintage, and has even upside potential as it will slowly reach its maturity window. What a stunner! 2029-2049. (Apr 2018)"

97 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The inherent ripeness of the 2009 vintage was showing a bit in our vertical at the end of February, and I wondered if this was just the context that the wine was placed in besides so many very racy vintages, or if its 2009 personality was going to give this a bit of earlier than usual appeal. The bouquet is starting to open quite nicely as it approaches its ninth birthday, offering up scents of pink grapefruit, guava, petrol, complex minerality, wild yeasts, citrus peel and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and fairly broad-shouldered for this bottling, with a great core of fruit, superb backend mineral drive, bright acids and excellent focus and grip on the long and complex finish. Another very fine vintage of G-Max. 2021-2065. (May/Jun 2018)"

97 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "The nose features a very wide spectrum of delicate yellow-fruit aromas with a touch of exotic fruit. Sensational ripeness, concentration and finesse on the medium- to full-bodied palate. At once silky and so animating right through the very long, almost perfectly balanced finish. Drink or hold. At the Keller G-Max vertical tasting. (3/22/24)"

96 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Smoky, pungent, and animal evocations of peat, sweat, and musk oil mingle with scents of peach, Rainier cherry, and grapefruit on the nose of Keller’s 2009 Riesling G-Max, then saturate the palate in an enveloping manner impressively unlike that of the other dry Rieslings in his present collection. This is so richly-fruited and plush in texture, and its abundance of flavor registers as such an extract-rich infusion, that the contrast with the sense of transparency and vibrancy projected by the corresponding Abtserde could scarcely be more dramatic. Yet even so, this G-Max comes off as anything but weighty. Peaty smokiness; musky floral essences; crushed chalk; peach kernel and cherry pit piquancy, all impinge distinctively amid an otherwise seamlessly dense ocean of flavor whose finish both engulfs and buoys you. Eleven days (!) after having been opened for my initial tasting, contents of this same bottle of G-max were still full of vibratory energy. I imagine at least a 15 year run of glory for this remarkable Riesling. (Feb 2011)"

19.5/20 points Michael Schmidt (JancisRobinson.com): "Tasted blind. In its complexity and freshness a simply overwhelming bouquet! This is the most impressive demonstration of spontaneous aromas that has ever passed my nose, the exhilarating freshness of a herb garden still under the veil of morning dew. Cool mint and crisp parsley take the lead in an array of fresh green fragrances. On the palate this animating green component integrates effortlessly into a grand composition of subtle fruity and vegetal elements. Glacial pebbles, flint, almond kernel, stone fruit and a faint menthol breeze are just some of the sensory highlights to be found in an aromatic harmony of transient ease. Stellar! Drinking Window: 2011-2030. (1/14/18)"
