"Best Spirit in the World" in the 2009 Spirit Journal listing of the world's best 115 distilled spirits. All the hallmarks of Orkney are here -- the smokiness, the peat, the heather-honey. All complemented by a glorious richness and spiciness cultivated by longer cask maturation. Also named to the Spirit Journal's "Hall of Fame." (Jun 2011)"

'Best Whisky for 2010' Spirit Journal: "Still my favorite Scotch whisky of the era. As many times as I taste this legend over the course of the year, HP 18 never fails to show me something new and different, a nuance that I hadn't detected previously. This classic continues to be a stupendous work of distilling art that, I believe, is one of the greatest beverage alcohol liquids ever produced and is assuredly the finest of the last 20 years. Graceful on the one hand; mighty and fathomless on the other. Delectably salty/peaty/maritime on the one hand; intensely malty on the other. If I could only select but one Scotch whisky, HP 18 would remain that very special singular choice. A masterpiece to savor many times before one dies. (Jun 2010)"

Classic (96-100)/Highest Recommendation, Wine Enthusiast: "Opening aromas are of sea breeze, cigar smoke, oak and malted barley; air contact releases light caramel, fudge, cocoa bean, burnt candle wick and heather. Entry is the most complex of any whisky; midpalate soars on oak, spirit and grain tastes. The greatest distilled spirit of this generation. Buy whatever you can find. Best Buy."

Wine Spectator: "[$115 list] Fruity. This would be very good if only for its blatant sweet and fruity flavors, yet it roams into the realm of the exceptional when you begin to notice the spice, toffee and leather on the nose. Fruity on the palate, this allows you to distinguish a tangerine character, then notes of Christmas cake and nuts. The finish suddenly goes spicy with anise, adding more nuts as it plays out for several minutes. (2/28/11)"

'Best of the Best Malts,' 10/10 points Quarterly Review of Wines: "Gold hue, honey, floral sweet, nutty flavors; sits well on palate; long, lovely oak and spicy finish. (Autumn 2011)"
