WHWC staff notes: "HIgh-toned nose, with scents of pear, white flowers, and lemon curd. Youthfully taut and fresh on the attack, with the citrus elements (primarily lemon) coming to the fore on the midpalate. There's a nice mineral edge to the vibrant, sustained, lime-infused finish. Delicious now, but it some time in bottle will undoubtedly yield even more complexity." -David Russell, 9/4/21
Importer notes: "Mâcon Villages is issued from two plots (total 1.8ha) of clay and chalk located in the towns of Uchizy and Chardonnay. The vineyard is turned towards the South and is about twenty years old. The parcels are cultivated following organic and biodynamic methods. The Mâcon Villages is aged in 'vieux foudres' (wood barrels containing 53 hl) and kept on yeasts for seven or eight month before being racked and prepared for bottling which is done in July and August."
Not yet reviewed; 2019 vintage rated 91 points by Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "Very agreeable, ripe apple fruit, with a soft, approachable texture on the palate. This entry-level wine from Lafon’s Mâcon operation is blended from all of its parcels, including site in Uchizy, Viré, Chardonnay and Bussières. The fruit is gently pressed and fermented in large, upright oak casks and briefly aged before being bottled. It is the same work as the rest of the range - certified organic with biodynamic principles - but the volumes are larger here. Drink: 2021-2029."
