92+ points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "From old vines growing in a clay-rich parcel whose grapes were vinified in clay amphora, the 2019 Viré-Clessé Retour à la Terre offers up aromas of buttery orchard fruit, white flowers and peach. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's lively and concentrated, with lots of chalky extract and a long, saline finish. Drink: 2021-2040. (Aug 2021)"
92 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "Retour à la Terre comes from the lower slope part of Champ Rond, picked on the last day of the harvest, and fermented and matured in terracotta amphoras which have been christened Romeo, Juliette and Tybalt. Pale clear colour, the nose is a little more bruised apple in style compared to the Quintaine bottling. The quality shows in the mouth with extra weight, and more acidity. Possibly some tannins too though obviously cannot come from the wood as there is none. Baked apple notes return at the finish. Tasted: October 2021."
