94+ points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Deep, expressive aromas of red fruits, minerals, dried flowers, roasted herbs, tar and camphor; I might have picked this blind as Barolo. Complex, penetrating, traditionally made wine with great verve and insinuating inner-mouth perfume. Urgent cherry, floral and spice flavors. Hugely tannic and very long; this multidimensional Barbaresco went into a shell in the glass. My score may prove to be conservative. (Nov/Dec 2002)"

94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "Giacosa’s 1998 Barbaresco Riserva Santo Stefano enjoyed a good showing, with its layers of perfumed, spiced fruit on full display. It was gorgeous and impeccably balanced... (May 2009)"

94.2 points CellarTracker.com community score.

93 points Wine Spectator: "Delicious. Full-bodied, with luscious, ripe plum, berry and cherry character and silky tannins, all in balance. Goes on and on. Wonderful. Always refined and inviting. Best from 2005 through 2010. 1,150 cases made. (11/15/03)"
