96 points and 'Editors' Choice,' Wine Enthusiast: "[$60 list] This expressive wine impresses in its expanse of savory tension and complexity, with accents of clove and cardamom. It is lightly styled on the palate and shows good integration of oak and polished tannins, filled out by the berry fruit core that offers length and breadth. Alcohol 14%. (Aug 2019)"

94 points James Suckling: "Lots of blueberries, blackberries and slate on the nose. Medium-bodied, integrated and tight. Refined and driven. Drink now or hold. (5/3/19)"

93 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "[$60 list] The 2017 Pinot Noir Freestone Vineyards is soft, supple and super-expressive. It offers dark cherry, plum, spice, leather and menthol on the nose, while bright red cherry, rose petal, mint and blood orange flavors are beautifully layered. The 20% whole clusters add aromatic nuance without overpowering the wine. The blend is 51% Quarter Moon and 49% Pastorale. Drink: 2020-2029. (May 2019)"

93 points PinotFile: "[$60 list] 14.0% alc. A blend of estate grown fruit - 51% Quarter Moon Vineyard and 49% Pastorale Vineyard. Aged 13 months in French oak barrels, 34% new and 66% twice-used. Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. Aromas of black cherry, sous-bois and fertile earth lead off. Mouth filling goodness with layers of black cherry, black raspberry and blackberry fruit flavors accented with a compliment of oak. Nicely balanced, with a seamless blending of fruit with supportive tannins and acidity, finishing long with an array of noble dark fruits. (4/10/19)"

92+ points Erin Brooks (Wine Advocate): "[$60 list] The 2017 Pinot Noir Freestone Vineyard was made using about 20% whole cluster and aged for 13 months in 34% new French oak. Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, it has a very open, gregarious nose of dried rose petals, potpourri, tree bark, red licorice and ripe red and black fruits with pretty spicy notes of cinnamon stick and clove. Light to medium-bodied, it has good layers of spicy, perfumed fruit in the mouth, with soft, grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing long and spicy. Drink: 2019-2026. (Apr 2019)"

Producer notes: "The 2017 Pinot Noir opens with jammy red fruit and freshly picked strawberries followed by tangy Bing cherry, raspberry and baking spice notes. A balanced, youthfully focused wine that finishes with white pepper spice and hints of tangerine peel. Barrel aged 13 months in 34% new and 66% two-year-old French oak."
