It seems to handle the new wood well, offering scents of black cherries, boysenberry and a touch of pain d’épices. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red and black fruit and a fine bead of acidity. Quite vibrant, especially toward the finish. The long aftertaste is very satisfying. Superb. The highly energetic medium weight flavors possess a seductive texture along with good volume and sappy dry extract that helps to buffer the very firm but not rigid tannic spine on the even more complex and persistent finale. 90-93 points Jasper Morris, MW: "No whole bunch here – Gilbert is still experimenting to find what work’s best. Deep purple almost black at the centre. Very inky style of fruit, for my palate I prefer it when the whole bunch lightens the wine up more. Hugely concentrated stuff, very ripe but not cooked with just enough acidity. Tasted: November 2019."
