Deeply coloured and grand on the nose, it exudes a youthful fragrance of dried flowers, roasted spice, damson plums and cherry preserves. More developed flavours of leather and forest floor surface on the broad palate, showing slightly more evolution. But the core remains firmly compact and dense. 93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 1999 vintage, which was so successful in the Côte de Beaune, has produced an outstanding Drouhin Clos des Mouches. The very deep bouquet offers up a blend of plums, black cherries, smoke, violets, bitter chocolate, herbs and cedar, as well as the customary touch of youthful stemminess. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and very soil-driven, with tangy acids, and great length and grip on the complex, palate-staining finish.
