93 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "For a wine of this rather humble category, this is extremely mineral. In fact, if you are in doubt what that word means, then here’s the explanation. But there’s also wonderful white-peach fruit that provides a wonderful contrast to the wet-stone character and lemony acidity. Long, pristine finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold. Screw cap. (8/8/22)"

92 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "The 2021 Riesling Tonschiefer is from slate soils in Oberhausen (Leistenberg and Hermnnshöhle) and offers a clear, intense and salted bouquet of crushed rocks and white stone fruits. Supple yet light and fresh on the palate, this is a piquant and finely tannic, stimulatingly salty Riesling with lush fruit on the finish, which is still a bit edgy but only as rugged as the landscape around Oberhausen. 12% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022. Drink: 2024-2045. (Aug 2022)"

91 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2021 Riesling Tonshiefer Trocken from Cornelius Dönnhoff is produced primarily from fruit in the Leistenberg vineyard in Oberhäusen. The 2021 version comes in at twelve percent alcohol and offers up a bright and complex nose of tart orange, pink grapefruit, wild yeasts, slate minerality, gentle smokiness and a topnote of lemongrass. On the palate the wine is vibrant, fullish and complex, with lovely mineral drive and cut, a fine core and impeccable balance on the long and precise finish. Good juice. 2023-2050. (Mar/Apr 2023)"

Suave and stony, this dry Riesling is a prime example of terroir in a bottle. Dönnhoff's masterful hand takes Riesling growing on selected patches of decomposing slate and transforms into exquisite juice; its striking clarity only adds to its complexity. An exciting, classic and dry wine, ideal for Japanese cuisine, seaweed, oysters, and steamed mushrooms.
