97 points La Revue du Vin de France: "Racy, with a lot of silkiness on the attack, a real iron hand, it is gripped by nice grainy tannins even as the richness of the vintage gives it a nice serenity. (Mar 2022)"

96 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "This is a superb wine, among the best of the appellation, with a pronounced plummy fruit touched with aromas of smoke, spice and floral notes, plus a texture that is firm, dense and tannic but in no way hard or astringent. Lovely. Rugiens-Bas is considered the best part of the vineyard and the domaine has a hectare here, just north of the Hospices, low on the slope in the heart of the iron band. The 50-year-old vines produced a lovely, ripe harvest in 2020, and the grapes were fermented entirely as whole clusters and aged in 40% new casks. Drinking Window: 2025-2060. (Nov 2021)"

95 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): "Domaine de Montille is the largest owner of Rugiens-Bas with 1 hectare 02 ares, and these vines are approximately 55 years old. Two-thirds whole clusters were used here, and the resulting wine explodes with aromas of mulberries, twigs, anise and dried wildflowers. It's incredibly intense and even feels full in body thanks to its excellent vinosity. 2025-38. (2022)"

93-95 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2020 Pommard Les Rugiens-Bas 1er Cru has a very strict and linear nose at first, mineral-driven with light undergrowth scents, the 100% whole cluster lending a light pepperiness. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip on the entry, quite firm in the mouth, good volumes with a lot of backbone and sturdiness on the finish. This will require 5-7 years to soften so have a cellar handy. Closure: Diam. Drink: 2026-2046. (Dec 2021)"

92-95 points Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy): "100% whole cluster. 12.7% finished, pH3.55. Dark deep purple. Sensual fruit, not over-ripe, only light evidence of whole bunch. Very powerful tough fresh structure at the finish, not for the faint hearted but potentially excellent. (Oct 2021)"

91-94 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a 1.02 ha holding; 100% whole clusters). This is also intensely floral in character with its combination of bright and fresh purple fruit, soft earth and pretty spice wisps, especially anise. The succulent but puncher larger-scaled and even more mineral-driven flavors flash good power and a taut muscularity on the moderately austere finale. This will need to add depth to merit the upper end of my suggested range. Drink: 2032+. (Jun 2022)"
