97 points Fine Wine Review: "The monopole Volnay-Clos des Ducs is an incredible wine with fabulous balance, harmony, and depth plus pinpoint precision to the red fruits. 2014-2030+. (Issue #103; 2004)"

94 points Jay McInerney (Vinous): "Harvested 19th-24th September: A very distinctive nose of spice and cinnamon. The fruit is gorgeous, very round. This is a really harmonious well-balanced wine with a silky, supple mouth coating texture. Drinking beautifully now, I expect the 2002 will hold for years because of its balance. (Dec 2016)"

93+ points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "Good medium red. Sexy fresh red berries, balsamic mint and a cool menthol quality on the nose. Incredibly backward for 2002 but already shows outstanding sweetness of red berry fruit complicated by tobacco and black olive tapenade. Powerful, palate-staining Clos des Duc with a serious spine of tannins and acidity. Jacques d'Angerville vinified the 2002s and son Guillaume bottled them after his father's death in 2003. Drink: 2020-2035. (Feb 2016)"

93 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Even after 10 years this remains almost as primary as when it was bottled as there are no secondary hints in evidence on the elegant and pure red berry fruit and stone-infused nose. The detailed| intense and strongly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess a sophisticated mouth feel while coating the palate with dry extract. There is a noticeably firm acid spine on the moderately austere and gorgeously persistent finish. This is a distinctly understated vintage for Clos des Ducs that seems to be evolving at a glacially slow pace. Drink: Try from 2017+. (Jul 2011)"

92 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "Tasted at Fine Wine Experience’s Clos des Ducs vertical. The ’02 has a deep garnet/ruby core with quite a wide degraded rim. The nose is introverted, beautifully defined and imbued with a wondrous sense of transparency. Tomato vine, a touch of strawberry, redcurrant, a slight tinny note developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity, very well balanced and nicely poised, although not incredibly complex. More a wine to drink with glee and not sit and intellectualize over, but the pleasure is all here. Drink now-2018. (Sep 2010)"

Clive Coates (My Favorite Burgundies): "Medium-full colour. Still youthful. The nose is balanced, subtle, and very Volnay-ish. But by no means the volume and intensity of the 2005. Long and classy. Just about ready. For me it misses a bit of vigour and concentration, but others like it better than I. Drink: Now to 2020 plus. (2013)"
