91 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The single vineyard bottling of Vigneto Gauggiole of Rosso di Montalcino from Castiglion del Bosco is a lovely bottle. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and spends its first six months of elevage in the same tanks, prior to racking to cement vats for its next year and a half of aging prior to bottling. The 2018 Vigneto Gauggiole comes in at 13.5 percent alcohol and delivers a fine, vibrant bouquet of cherries, a touch of blood orange, woodsmoke, a lovely base of soil tones, a touch of fresh oregano and a gently spicy topnote of cumin and sandalwood. On the palate the wine is pure, refined and full-bodied, with lovely transparency down to the soil, a good core of red fruit, tangy acids, fine-grained tannins and a long, complex and very well balanced finish. This is a first class Rosso that could do with a few years in the cellar to soften up properly on the backend. Serious juice. 2026-2045. (Jul/Aug 2021)"
Producer notes: "Rosso di Montalcino Gauggiole Cru is a young, refreshing Sangiovese, whose name derives from the location of the vineyards, historically titled after the farmstead of the same name, located in the north-east part of the estate. It is the cherry-pick of the grapes from that particular area."
