'Outstanding'/89-91 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from Argillières, Guérippes and Fouchères). Cool, very pretty and nicely spicy red berry fruit aromas give way to delicious, round and relatively supple light to middleweight flavors that conclude in a dusty, youthfully austere and lightly stony finale. This understated effort is very Chambollesque and worth considering. Drink: 2026+. (Jan 2023)"

Bertheau's Chambolle A.C. makes up nearly half the domaine's production and issues from various plots scattered around the village. Elevage for this cuvée is noteworthy for taking place entirely in old foudres rather than the traditional 228-liter pièces used for the rest of his production. He has described it as glou-glou ("quaffable") when we've met with him, which sells it a bit short. According to John Gilman, the entry-level Chambolle "always drink[s] beautifully with only a few years’ worth of bottle age, though it is always nicely structured at the same time and ages very gracefully...and it should most emphatically not be ignored in the search for the premier crus or the superb Bonnes Mares."
