***(*) John Livingston-Learmonth (The Cradle of the Rhône): "(60% Grenache, 40% Syrah from two suppliers at Séguret, Tulette, purchased wine, destemmed, 2-3 week vinification, wild yeasts, pumping overs, raised 90-95% concrete & steel vat, 5-10% used oak casks 9-10 months, unfiltered, two bottlings in June & July after harvest, organic wine.) Clear red robe; red cherry, light herbal airs in an alert bouquet. This is spiced, gourmand, easy flow wine, nice and relaxed, the tannins well inside, will be popular. There are floral dabs at the end, a rounded finale. It holds well judged sweetness, is w.o.w. ('wine one wants') wine. 'It’s a lot on fruit,' F Balthazar. 13.5°. 2026-27. (Nov 2022)"
60% Grenache, 40% Syrah. The grapes for this wine are sourced from three hectares next to Vinsobres dans la Drome, which will now be Franck's and is farmed organically. The winemaking occurs in stainless steel, fermentation with wild yeasts, no filtration and little SO2. Franck is the nephew of Noel Verset, and bought his 97-year-old parcel in Chaillot from him when Noel retired. He blends this old plot with his 46-year-old parcel, both of which are on the granitic and sunny slopes of Les Chaillots. Plowing is done with a horse, and in the tiny cellar the grapes are pressed without being destemmed. Fermentation takes place in cement vats and the wine goes into old 600 liter barrels “demi-muids”, for 18 months, before being bottled without fining of filtration.
