Joseph V. Micallef (Forbes): "This is a rare, aged Ardbeg that combines Ardbeg’s signature smokiness with its distinctive sweetness.... The Ardbeg Traigh Bhan Batch Two continues the tradition of blending ex-bourbon and sherry butt matured whisky. At 19 years it offers up that smooth, well integrated cold smoke that is characteristic of aged Ardbeg along with the sweetness and dried fruit notes you find in sherry cask matured whiskies.... The color is a pale gold. On the nose, this is a very aromatic whisky. There is the distinctive aroma of cold smoke, tarred rope and charred wood that Ardbeg is known for. As the whisky opens up a sweet, crème brûlée note emerges, along with some herbal notes, a hint of anise and some indistinct tropical fruit notes. Think of a newly opened can of a tropical fruit cocktail. There is a slight saline note that is typical of Ardbeg. On the palate the whisky is thick, with a viscous oily quality that coats the mouth and has a noticeable palate weight. It’s sweet, with notes of licorice, lime zest, and a bit of mango and pineapple. There is a slight pepperiness, more chili-like than black pepper, along with some slight notes of tar and smoke and a slight, lingering medicinal note. The finish is long, sweet and smoky with a lingering hot chile pepperiness. If you are a fan of Ardbeg, Traigh Bhan will offer you all of the aromas and flavors that you have come to love and look for in Ardbeg."
