95 points Chris Kissack (Winedoctor): "A great colour, and an intriguing nose, quite precise and pointed, with notes of cigar box, liquorice and tobacco on the nose, wrapped within a little Cabernet reduction. The palate is charming and fresh, with a silky composition, a very fine-grained core of tannins, and a fresh grip. Charming, a little more delicate than I expected on my first encounter, but a finely framed example of the vineyard and the vintage, it nevertheless impressed more when tasted at the domaine, when it was all reductive, which does it no harm at all in my eyes. This upright character continues on the palate, which wraps up some sweet fruit with ribbons of saline minerality which should be enough to convince even hardened warm-vintage sceptics of the value of this wine. An excellent result, with fine cellar potential. The alcohol is about 14.5%, says Philippe. (10/23)." 93-95 points Rebecca Gibb, MW (Vinous): "The Côteau de Noiré is a 2.5ha vineyard on a steep slope with a base of clay limestone. The 2020 is an almost unctuous Chinon with its rich strawberry and black cherry fruit as well. It's smooth, supple and has its act together with delightfully chalky tannins that will leave you licking the inside of your mouth. Excellent, fragrant and long. Drink 2025-2040. (Aug 2022)"
