The Heritage Sireni is an 80/20 red blend of Sireni and Ararati. The bunches of dark-berry Sireni (aka Khndoghni) are indigenous to Artsakh and resistant to the heat but don’t do well in the cold. Ararati, named for Mt. Ararat, is a large, late-ripening white grape from Vayotz Dzor that’s new to the winemaking scene. Close to being forgotten, Ararati is now being revived. These two varieties are fermented separately in buried karasi (clay vessels), then blended, and aged in karasi for about 2 years.
