There are narrowly focused elements of dark caramel, cocoa and praline in the aggressive opening aroma after the pour; following another seven minutes of aeration, the aroma expands begrudgingly to include tree sap, maple syrup, resin and black tea. Entry is sensationally explosive and animated once on the tongue, firing off soaring flavors of candied pears, Tupelo honey, English toffee and pipe tobacco; midpalate tastes focus more on the oak impact and are therefore more baking spice-driven, especially clove, nutmeg, allspice and cinnamon.
