96 points James Suckling: "An expression of autumnal, leafy and dried red berry fruits on the nose with some red licorice. too. Still very fresh. Terrific depth. Blue fruits and layered plum flavors. Elegant and powerful. Still super youthful. Extremely fine tannins that run long. Plush and refreshing. Saline kick to the finish. Drink now. (7/4/17)"

95 points Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate): "Showing a bit of brick at the rim, Vieux Telegraphe's 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape remains a wonderfully complex, vibrant wine. Marked by scents of pressed flowers, a hint of button mushrooms and plenty of cherry-raspberry fruit, it's medium to full-bodied and silky textured, finishing long and complex. Drink: 2005-2030. (5/5/22)"

95 points Matt Walls (Decanter): "Firmly into its mature phase now. Polished wood, cedar and black cherry jam - sweet on the palate, a very fine and elegant vintage. It's long and silky with a lovely acidity keeping things fresh, alongside a little menthol note that accentuates the freshness, as does the salinity on the finish. Owner and winemaker Daniel Brunier says; ‘Always very fine, very elegant, it was ready two years after the vintage, good after 10 years, good at 20.' Drinking Window: 2020-2025. (6/4/20)"

94 points Wine Spectator: "Textbook, with singed cedar and tobacco leaf, lavender and bay notes weaving through flavors of date nut bread, dried currant and mulled cherry fruit. All of this is harnessed by pebbly tannins that leave a juicy, mouthwatering feel on the finish. A domaine that hasn't missed a beat in quite some time. -- 2001 Châteauneuf-du-Pape non-blind retrospective. (2/29/12)"
