98 points Wine Doctor: "This is smoky and more reticent than some other Maltus wines, significantly less eager to please than even Les Astéries, yet there is no denying the dark and spicy flavours of coffee bean, liquorice and soy sauce. The palate shows a very restrained texture, fresh and carefully judged in comparison with Les Astéries, but there is still a wealth of substance here, the fruit broad, polished and really quite elegantly composed considering the weight of the structure. Brilliantly composed, with such depth and complexity. It finishes with a flourish of liquorice, soy sauce, vanilla pod and toasted coffee bean, lingering here, supported by the finely grained and velvety tannins. Top work, and a top result. (05/18)."

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Vieux Château Mazerat is another sensational Saint Emilion from Jonathan Maltus. A blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, it offers a heavenly bouquet of blackberry liqueur, cassis, toasted spices, graphite, and scorched earth-like minerality. Deep, full-bodied, layered, and opulent, yet with awesome purity and precision, this tour de force is already approachable yet will cruise in the cellar for 15+ years. Bravo! Drink 2018-2033." (10/15/18)."

95-97 points Roger Voss (Wine Enthusiast): "Barrel Sample. This is an impressively perfumed wine, with fragrant black fruits and rich tannins moving together. It has a sumptuous character, powered by fruit as much as by tannins. It is a very fine, rich and dense wine that will age well. (04/01/16)."

96+ points Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate): "Coming from a single vineyard possessing vines planted in 1947 and composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon with 35% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Vieux Chateau Mazerat opens with expressive crème de cassis, dark chocolate, charcuterie and plum preserves with hints of incense, Indian spices and cigar box. The palate is big and rich with firm, grainy tannins and a touch of prune character, plus a lively backbone and long earth-laced finish. Drink 2020-2045. (04/27/18)."
