96 points Simon Field, MW (Decanter): "The power of 1989 demands long ageing both before and after disgorgement. In terms of the latter, the wine has now enjoyed over 20 years of liberation from the dark cellars of Reims. We, in turn, are rewarded with an assertive toasty rich wine; coffee and dark chocolate evidenced, Black forest gateau almost, its dark cherry core still distinctive and refreshing, and beyond that hints of sour honey and blond tobacco. Part of a memorable trio of vintages (soon to be replicated by 2018, 2019 and 2020, it seems), the 1989 is an archetype of aged vintage Champagne, its inherent exuberance latent even through the complexity bestowed by age. Drinking Window: 2020-2026. (3/2/19)"
93-95 points Essi Avellan, MW: "(62% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay). Rich red berry nose with a biscuity edge. Wide, even fat palate. Plenty of healthy evolution and build-up of positive tertiary characteristics. Comforting, smooth style, a perfect drink today. (Sep 2008)"
