93 points Descorchados: "Originally, in the mid-1990s, Primus was a blend that came entirely from vineyards in the coastal Casablanca Valley. But, seeking a riper, more powerful wine, in 2005 Neyen decided to change its origin to vineyards in the more southerly and much warmer zone of Apalta, in the Colchagua Valley. Times have changed, and so have styles, and this once compact, concentrated wine is now delicious red fruit juice with sweet spices. The tannins are friendly, but sharp. Entirely from Apalta, Primus has a 45% base of very old cabernet sauvignon planted more than 80 years ago. (Jan 2024)"
92 points Joaquín Hidalgo (Vinous): "The 2020 Primus The Blend is a combination of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah, 10% Malbec, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Carménère and 5% Cabernet Franc from Apalta, aged for 16 months in foudres and barrels. Dark garnet red in hue. The blend makes for a complex, balsamic nose of ripe redcurrant, blueberry and undergrowth aromas (thanks to the nearby forest), over a bed of oak. Indulgent and broad with an expansive flow tickled by structural tannins. A ripe, juicy, nuanced wine. Drink: 2023-2035. (Mar 2023)"
90 points Zekun Shuai (JamesSuckling.com): "A chewy red with plenty of currants, dried cranberries, tobacco and spices. Tannins are chewy with some cherry fruit in the middle. 45% cabernet sauvignon, 25% syrah, 10% malbec, 8% petit verdot, 7% carmenere and 5% cabernet franc. From organically grown grapes. Drink in 2024. (2/8/23)"
