94 points Eric Guido (Vinous): "The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Spuntali captivates with its dark florals and earthy bouquet. Here I’m finding freshly tilled soil and sous-bois giving way to musky black cherry and Indian spices. It’s a wine of power and elegance, casting velvety textures across the palate along with mineral-and-citrus-tinged red and black fruits. There’s a lot of pleasure to be found here already, even as this tapers off lightly structured and with a buzz of residual tension. Another two to three years should put the 2013 Vigna Spuntali in a very special place. Drink: 2023-2033. (Jan 2022)"

94 points James Suckling: "Plenty of spices and fresh herbs on the nose, such as dried rosemary and nutmeg, to match the underlying dried redcurrants and cranberries. Full-bodied with plenty of concentration, but still shows a very sturdy, tannin backbone and punchy acidity, to drive this through to a long finish. Drink in 2021. (9/11/18)"

94 points Falstaff Guide: "Bright ruby with a slight garnet edge. Opens with light earthy notes of truffle, then lots of ripe plum and some liquorice. Hearty and gripping on the palate, shows a lot of dense tannin, currently still seems a bit rough, still needs ageing, made for a long life. (Mar 2019)"

92 points Monica Larner (Wine Advocate): "Made with easy-ripening fruit from the sunny southwest quadrant of the appellation, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Spuntali is a charming and fruit-forward expression. This wine is softer and more accessible than the other two single-vineyard expressions I tasted from Val di Suga. The fruit is dark and saturated with summer cherry, plum, spice and tobacco. This wine ages in new French barrique for 24 months. Drink: 2020-2030. (Feb 2019)"
