93 points La Revue du Vin de France: "The historic cuvée Romains offers two faces: a spherical sensation on the attack, immediately channeled by a more austere character on the finish. Give it three to four years to relax. (2024)"
91 points Rebecca Gibb, MW (Vinous): "The 2021 Les Romains is a pure, clean and focused style. There's a delicate flint note on the nose and a precise line of acidity and push-pull texture on the palate. It's a firm style that speaks of its place - on the flinty side of Sancerre's fault line. There are no pretty florals here like you'd find on the chalk soils of Sancerre but a tension alongside greener-edged fruit. This is an assertive, vertical wine but not as nuanced. In time, it will improve, retaining brightness, unlike many wines found on the limestone, which are more immediately charming. Drink: 2023-2030. (Jul 2023)"
This wine is flinty, rich and haunting! Pure flint (silex) soils, rich in fossilized material, contribute a minerality and smokiness to the wine. A full south-facing vineyard, Les Romains was one of Vacheron's first single-vineyard bottlings, starting back in 1997.
