96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "More kirsch liqueur, violets, white pepper, and garrigue notes emerge from the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée De Mon Aïeul, a 100% Grenache cuvée that was partially destemmed and brought up all in demi-muids. As usual, this cuvée comes from older vines in the La Crau, la Guigasse, and les Serres lieux-dits, which are a mix of more pebbly and sandy soils. It ratchets up the intensity over the classic cuvée yet stays beautifully balanced with a weightless texture, a great mid-palate, and a blockbuster of a finish. It’s not going to be the longest-lived vintage for this cuvée (which is common in 2018), but it’s going to put a big smile on your face anytime over the coming 10-15 years. Drink: 2020-2035. (10/6/20)"
95 points Peter Moser (Falstaff): "Dark ruby with purple reflections, brightening to a subtle ochre rim. Ripe plums are underlaid with candied orange zest, a hint of blackberry jam, delicate dried spices, and tobacco nuances. Juicy and powerful, with a delicate touch of cardamom, cherry compote, and ripe tannins. The finish is chocolaty, with a mineral touch and delicate tannins. It will benefit from bottle ageing. (4/23/21)"
95 ponts Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider): "Sweet, lush, juicy, peppery and concentrated, the wine is lush, fruity, rich and intense. Here you find layers of kirsch, black raspberries, spice and garrigue with a touch of mint and pepper in the finish. This should age quite well. The wine is made with 100% old vine Grenache. (Oct 2020)"
94 points Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate): "While the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul does show a touch of oak influence on the nose, it also shows more freshness and energy than the regular cuvée. All Grenache, all whole cluster and aged in used demi-muids, there are waves of ripe raspberries and black cherries, drizzled with dark chocolate and spice. Full-bodied and velvety, it's a big, plush, welcoming mouthful of super ripe Grenache that avoids going completely over the top. Drink: 2020-2030. (9/24/20)"
94 points Nicolas Greinacher (Vinous): "Deep, glistening ruby-red. A highly complex bouquet evokes red/blue fruit preserves, incense and exotic spices, and floral and smoky mineral nuances emerge as the wine opens up. Stains the palate with finely etched, spice-laced raspberry, boysenberry and candied lavender flavors supported by a core of juicy acidity. Shows impressive depth as well as energy and finishes spicy and extremely long, leaving repeating floral and red fruit notes behind. Drink: 2025-2035. (Oct 2021)"
94 points Wine Spectator: "[$125 list] This packs in a lot of cassis, cherry paste and mulled boysenberry fruit flavors, all knit with lively garrigue, warm stone and roasted applewood notes. Has the forward edge of the vintage, but good energy and tension through the finish as well. Best from 2023 through 2035. 300 cases made, 160 cases imported. (11/22/21)"
