91-93 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "100% whole bunch vinification on fruit from two plots making up half a hectare, with light soil which drains well. Powerful mid crimson purple. A definite peppery aspect here. Very perfumed, roses and peonies, taking over from the initial pepper. But the white spice returns at the finish. It will take time for the sweet fruit to triumph over the drier finish, which it will. (Nov 2023)"

91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin "Cuvée 1859" was blended in the Ostrea until 2019 and is named after the first two parcels owned by the Trapet family. It is 60% echalas and 100% whole bunches. It has heart-warming purity on the nose: Morello cherries and blackcurrant, very precise and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, fresh and very saline towards the finish. Quite Morey-like in terms of backbone - real length here. Excellent. Drink: 2026-2040. (Jan 2024)"

90-92 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "As readers may remember, the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1859 derives from old vines in lieu-dit Champerrier that the Trapet family acquired in 1859. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries and plums mingled with orange zest, rose petals and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and a suave, layered profile. 89-92 points/'Top value,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from En Derée and Champerrier Dessus, which were the first two parcels purchased by the domaine in 1859 and hence the cuvée name). Moderate wood surrounds the ripe vaguely liqueur-like aromas of various dark berries, spice, violet and lavender. The vibrant and beautifully textured middleweight flavors, indeed it's almost silky thanks to the fine-grained tannins supporting the lingering finish that firms up noticeably. This is an excellent Gevrey villages with good aging potential. Drink: 2030+. (Jan 2024)"

90-91 points/'Very Good+,' Steen Öhman (Winehog): "This cuvee comes from the original Ostrea: two plots planted in 1913, with the label memorialising the Trapet family’s arrival in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1859 from its origins nearby in Chambolle-Musigny. Velvety and organic, this is not as dense as the 2020 version, but it’s not far off. It shows the class of old vines and biodynamic farming, and will need time to unfold. Vivid and intense, this is a complex village that will benefit from cellaring. Drink from 2034. (1/11/24)"
