94 points La Revue du Vin de France: "Chiseled, incisive, the deep, penetrating Clos Prieur seems to pulsate on the palate, endowed with a particular vibrancy, and its rich tannins offer remarkable finesse. (2024)"

93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2021 Domaine Trapet Clos Prieur is another stellar premier cru in the making. The bouquet is dep and complex, showing a bit more red fruit in its constellation than most in the lineup this year, as it delivers a mix of red and black cherries, plums, cigar wrapper, a very complex base of soil tones, gamebird, sweet stems, coffee bean and a gentle foundation of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very elegant in profile out of the blocks, with a fine core, fine-grained tannins and a long, focused and seamlessly balanced finish. Fine juice. 2035-2090. (Nov/Dec 2022)"

91-93 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "One of the Trapet family's historic holdings, the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru En Ergot derives from a parcel acquired in the 1880s (during the phylloxera crisis, it sold for the lofty sum of 400 Francs per barrel) that's the continuation of premier cru Petite Chapelle but with deeper soils. Revealing aromas of cassis, sweet plums, orange zest and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a textural, gourmand profile and powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish. (1/31/23)"

91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos-Prieur 1er Cru has quite an intense bouquet with ripe cranberry and wild strawberry scents. A little showier. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, veins of blue fruit, supple tannins with a simpler finish than the Corbeaux and maybe without quite the same degree of mineralité. Nevertheless, this will give 10-15 years' drinking pleasure. Drink: 2025-2038. (Jan 2023)"

90-93 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "A good intermediate purple. This is more suave on the palate with slightly higher toned acidity yet clearly fewer tannins. Attractive with medium density and a good long finish. Drink from 2026-2032. (Dec 2022)"

90-92 points/'Fine,' Steen Öhman (Winehog): "The Gevrey Clos Prieur for me tips a bit too far towards the classical-styled Gevreys, despite being organic in character. Made in a vivid style, it shows good energy, but is a bit reduced. Not the domaine’s strongest point in 2021. Drink from 2029. (11/23/22)"

90-92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Here too there is just enough wood present to merit pointing out on the similar if slightly more elegant nose. There is very good volume to the noticeably finer middleweight flavors that flash more evident minerality on the caressing, lingering and punchy finish that is austere and firm but not really rustic. Drink: 2031+. (Jan 2023)"
