93-95 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes 1er Cru, which is 100% on échalas trained vines, which Trapet believes gives more energy to the vines. It is very focused and mineral-driven on the nose, dark berry fruit laced with Earl Grey, quite mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, compact and linear, fresh with good density on the finish. At present it is refusing to "fan out", hinting that it is keeping something up its sleeve for later. Cellar this for 3-5 years. Drink: 2027-2048. (Jan 2023)"

93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The inaugural vintage of the Trapets’ aux Combottes was also seriously hit by frost in April, so that there are only 1.5 barrels of this in 2021, compared to three casks in a normal-sized crop. The wine is, by a good stretch, the most red fruity of the premier crus here this year, offering up scents of red plums, cherries, cocoa powder, a lovely foundation of soil, pigeon, a touch of cedar and plenty of cigar smoke tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and vibrant, with a good core, fine transparency and grip, fine-grained tannins and a long, refined and impeccably balanced finish. Another stellar new addition to the roster chez Trapet! 2035-2090. (Nov/Dec 2022)"

93 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "This vintage is only the second for Combottes as a stand-alone wine. Before 2020, Trapet blended these grapes with those from Corbeaux and En Ergot to produce the Capita bottling. This vintage shows that it stands ably on its own, with lovely blackberry fruit aromas, a floral accent, and notes of earth, mineral, and spice. The wine is almost shockingly crisp, but there is enough density to keep the wine in balance. It doesn't give a tart impression, but the acid drives the wine to an energetic finish. Drinking Window: 2027-2050. (Nov 2022)"

93 points/'Very Fine+,' Steen Öhman (Winehog): "Next up is Gevrey Combottes, a newer wine in the Trapet line-up (from 2020). This is a brilliant vineyard located between Latricieres-Chambertin and Morey-Saint-Denis, and from 2019 has been 100% echalas trained, so one of the more advanced plots in the Trapet transformation. The wine is organic and intense, with deep energy and impressive effortlessness. While of medium density, it is a wine of organic feeling, delicate and hedonistic. What a joy. Drink from 2032. (11/23/22)"

91-93 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes bursts with aromas of sweet cherries, smoky berries, orange zest and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, it's fleshy and enveloping, with supple tannins, bright acids and a mouthwatering finish. (1/31/23)"
