96 points James Suckling: "Deep blue and black fruit here, with floral, spicy and balsamic accents. Brooding and complex. You have to fathom the power of tannin on the palate, as the texture is so ultra-fine and polished. But don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of tannins here, only so seamless that they make it taste so effortless. Naturally concentrated, juicy and long. Delicious now, but you can hold for added complexity. (5/3/22)"

95 points Tim Atkin, MW: "(14%). Black Tears was first made back in 2006, but has moved up a notch in quality in recent vintages thanks to the influence of consultant Jean-Claude Berrouet. Fresh, perfumed, detailed and refined, this is very much a high-altitude style, showing subtle reduction, spicy 50% new wood, fine-boned tannins and tangy plum and black cherry fruit. 2024-31. (2022)"

93 points Joaquín Hidalgo (Vinous): "[$65 list] The 2018 Malbec Black Tears from San Pablo, Tunuyán spent 16 months in new and used barrels. A vivid purple hue. The nose presents notes of ripe plum, country herbs and hints of mint with a little jam and blueberry. Intense and juicy with precise freshness, the tannins are slightly reactive and finely grained. Drink: 2024-2033. (Nov 2022)"

92 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers aromas of petrichor and dried violet that make for an alluring entry, while the palate offers nice vibrancy to well-defined plum and red currant flavors. Offers nuances of mineral and olive that fold in around fine tannins and a lingering note of dark chocolate. Drink now through 2034. (11/15/22)"
