96 points (18/20)/'Le Coup de Coeur,' La Revue du Vin de France: "Cellar this superb 2016 vintage, which is full of energy and has a finish carried by a great minty freshness. (2019)"

95 points Wine Spectator: "Rock 'em, sock 'em St.-Julien, with mouthcoating ganache and tar notes backed by commensurate cassis, blueberry paste and blackberry reduction flavors. The long finish rumbles through, with buried brambly grip providing the support for the dense fruit and toast to meld. Best from 2025 through 2040. (3/31/19)"

95 points Chris Kissack (Winedoctor): "I find an almost salty-fresh and rather saline nose here, with the savoury aromas of black bean. This is followed by a very supple presence on the palate, fresh with a lovely substance, surrounding a fabulously tight-grained core of tannins, and it has great energy too. There is a very convincing textural quality to this wine, a great concentrated fruit character, and fabulous energy too, a real tour de force. Deliciously drinkable now, but it has clear potential for the cellar. A top result for Talbot;this is surely one of the best wines I have tasted here in a few years. (Dec 2018)"

94 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2016 Talbot is aromatically quite expressive, but less available on the palate, where it is quite closed down. Time in the glass brings out a host of sweet tobacco, smoke, leather, cedar, mint, licorice and red-toned fruit. In two tastings, Talbot gave the impression it is going to need at least a few years to fully come into its own. Even so there is plenty to look forward to once the tannins start to melt away a bit. Consultants Stéphane Derenoncourt and Julien Lavenu have done quite a bit to raise the bar here, but I get a sense more is possible. Tasted two times. Drink: 2026-2056. (Jan 2019)"

94 points Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux): "(55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot). Young and closed even as it clocks towards eight years old, but all of the building blocks of a brilliant wine are here. A little soft through the mid palate compared to some of its sibling 2016s, but this has charm, St Julien finesse, great length. Higher Merlot than usual because of the particular success of this variety, yet this remains full of Left Bank character - pencil lead, slate, woodsmoke, blackberry. Eric Boissenot consultant, 50% new oak for ageing, Jean-Pierre Marty director. Alcohol 13.5%. Drink: 2026-2043. (12/5/23)"

94 points James Suckling: "This is already a beautiful St.-Julien that’s ripe and elegant with not a jot too much oak or tannin, but a very fresh and lively finish that keeps on going. However, there are some serious reserves in this wine that need time to be released. Already very harmonious, but better from 2021. (1/19/19)"
