94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Guillaume Sorrel’s 2023 regular bottling of Hermitage is a great wine in the making. It comes in at a very civilized 13.5 percent octane in this fine vintage. As I mentioned last year, this cuvée is raised in five to seven year-old barrels for a year and a half prior to bottling. The wine’s beautifully expressive bouquet hops from the glass in a blend of cassis, smoked meats, pepper, sun-washed stony soil tones, black olive, coffee bean, a touch of sweet stem tones and plenty of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with great fruit and soil signature, ripe, beautifully integrated tannins, excellent focus and grip, impeccable balance and a very, very long, ripely tannic and complex finish. This has a touch of that medicinal quality of young Hermitage that I have always found to be a harbinger of greatness down the line. This is an utterly classic example of Hermitage and it is going to be stunning once it is ready to drink! 2040-2100. (Sep/Oct 2015)"
